6 October 2025: Igneo Infrastructure Partners (Igneo), a global infrastructure investment manager, has today announced it has entered into agreements to sell its majority interests in Clarus, a New Zealand-based energy group.
Clarus is the owner of the Firstgas gas transmission and distribution businesses, Rockgas LPG, Flexgas underground gas storage and the Firstlight electricity distribution network.
Under the agreements entered into today, the Firstgas, Rockgas and Flexgas businesses will be sold to funds controlled by infrastructure investor Brookfield, and the Firstlight business will be sold to New Zealand energy distributor, Powerco. Igneo will retain its interest in the Tauhei solar farm.
The transactions are subject to a number of conditions, including regulatory consents and are expected to settle in the first half of 2026.
Danny Latham, Head of Igneo Australia and New Zealand said, “Following a review of our broader portfolio and increased inbound interest in these assets, we decided to conduct a sale process and are pleased to reach this outcome today. We are proud of our achievements with the Clarus group, having taken it from the initial acquisition of the gas transmission and distribution businesses in 2016 to the multifaceted energy business it is today. We are confident that the businesses will continue their successes under their new ownership. We remain committed to growing our other New Zealand investments, including the Tauhei solar farm, and to further explore New Zealand-based opportunities on behalf of our clients.”
RBC Capital Markets and Cameron Partners Limited acted as financial advisers to Igneo.
